The Insiders's Guide to Maine's Mid-coast

New in 1997, Cafe This Way has already made a great splash on the Bar Harbor scene. Come here for gourmet food in a casual atmosphere—you might even find yourself lounging on a couch while you dine on grilled tuna, sirloin wth a reduced black cherry sauce, or cajun grilled seafood. Cafe This Way serves breakfast and dinner daily in summer, and breakfast and lunch during the year. Breakfasts are eclectic, ranging from vegetarian tofu scramble to homemade corned beef hash. In summer you can dine outside on a deck; in winter you might settle beside a fireplace. Friday nights in winter you can settle in for the cafe's one-seating dinner for whch the chef sends out from six to eight courses of whatever she pleases—true culinary indulgence.

There are high chairs and children's games here, but no children's menu. Dinner typically has a quiet atmostphere. While there's a full bar, the wine list is so extensive that the cafe can also be considered a wine bar. Reservations are advised as this popular restaurant seats only 49.
